The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea are rapidly approaching, which means the 2018 Ravellenic Games are as well!
About the Games
The Ravellenic Games grew out of an idea from the Yarn Harlot back in 2006 where the ultimate goal is to challenge yourself, just like the athletes do during the Olympics.
What will be a stretch for you? It could be a new technique, that first sweater or pair of socks, something massive, something delicate, or maybe finishing that monster in the closet. The goal of the Ravellenic Games is to support you in expanding your knitting/crocheting horizons and the level at which you participate and the challenge you set is completely up to you..
How to Participate
Just as Olympic athletes compete for their larger team, stitchers can join teams as well. This is not a requirement, but we obviously hope you’ll join team fibre space.
In order to join our team, all you need to do is create a project page on Ravelry for each project, use the tag teamfibrespace2018 (on Rav) and #teamfibrespace2018 (on Instagram), and post your progress in our Ravelry group.
There are 15 events this year. A few have special rules in addition to the One Rule above. You decide which event(s) you’d like to enter. Each event has a unique tag, and each project must be tagged on Ravelry to get counted in the final tallies.
Here is our team badge if you’d like to decorate your Ravelry or Instragram profile and show your team spirit.
Mass Cast-On Party
The Olympic Games run from Friday, February 9th to Sunday, February 25th. The official start time is 8 pm KST (6 am EST) and all projects must be finished by 11:59 pm KST (9:59 am EST) on Sunday, February 25th.
Since the official start time is so early this year, we will be having a mass cast-on party all day long at the shop! Drop by whenever you have time and begin your projects. Can’t make it that day? No worries! Just cast on wherever you’re at.
Crossing the Finish Line
In order to be eligible for medals (blog badges), you must cross the finish line for each project. These threads are in the main 2018 Ravellenic Games group on Ravelry. But wait, what counts as finished? That’s up to you! Just note that these threads will only be open for 24 hours after the closing ceremonies, so don’t delay.
We’d love to see what you’re planning on making. Be sure to comment below and share in our Ravelry group your plans for the Games!
