I am so excited to present to you our newest yarn company – Spincycle Yarns. The company sources all of it’s wool from the United States and it is spun in the US as well, making it entirely American from start to finish. And my favorite thing about this company is that the yarns are all dyed by the two lovely owners and spun by just two employees at the mill. A woman owned and operated business!
A Brief History of Spincycle Yarns:
We began as a handspinnery back in 2004, the two of us kettle dyeing and spinning all of our yarn in small batches and selling at our local farmers’ market. When, in 2012, a little fiber mill opened its doors just south of our Bellingham, Washington, studio and dye house, we partnered with them to begin production of a millspun yarn that would maintain the look of our handspun yarn but which could be produced at a much faster pace. Turns out that was a pretty good idea. We still dye each and every lot ourselves, and our mill employs two lovely ladies who spin up all four of our yarn lines.
Our first yarn to arrive is Dyed in the Wool. The wool in this yarn is not breed specific, but is sourced from good wool breeds raised in the USA and is superwash treated in South Carolina!
Yarn details:
- 200 yards of sport weight
- 100% superwashed American wool
- hand wash or machine wash cold, lay flat to dry
- suggested gauge: 8-5 sts per inch on US #2-7
- $32
The most interesting thing about this yarn is how different it looks once knitted! I just completed this sweater in the colorway shown here. Check out the stripes!
