Highland Handmades now in worsted

Highland Handmades now in worsted

We loved the Highland Handmades’ Sugar Maple Sock so much, another Highland Handmades base has just landed! The Black Ash Worsted, a 60% Merino-40% bamboo blend, is 300 yards per skein (note that you should hand wash and dry flat). The bamboo in this blend gives the yarn a gorgeous sheen and a lovely drape that you don’t get from a pure wool.

The skeins are just $23 each (which, I might add, is a screaming bargain for 300 yards of worsted), so grab a few skeins for gift knitting and, what the heck, a few as gifts for yourself, too.

To get you started, we’ve picked out a few project ideas that will get you ready for holiday gifting (I know, I know — it’s early, but projects take time!):

Stargazing Cowl

The Stargazing Cowl, designed by Highland Handmades dyer, Heather Monroe Kinne, is a simple stitch that will show off the color variations in Black Ash Worsted beautifully and, thanks to that bamboo, hangs just so around your neck.

One Skein Slant

Another cowl option that will show off that gorgeous variation is the One Skein Slant by Lisa Dykstra. This pattern calls for just 200 yards — and makes a perfect quick gift!

Adama

Adama, a worsted weight cowl-shawl hybrid designed by Hilary Smith Callis that uses lace patterning and a unique shape for that perfect drape, is another single-skein project that results in a virtual hug for your giftee (or yourself, of course!).

Jasmine Scarf

The free Jasmine Scarf pattern from Purl Soho is a two-skein (or however many you like!) project. But it’s one that is sure to be beloved and worn frequently. And if it’s not, knitting law says you can take it back. (OK maybe not, but it should.)

Camellia Leaf Hat

The Camellia Leaf Hat, shown here knit out of the Black Ash Worsted, is such a pretty pattern (OK, I may be sucker for anything with leaves on it). But you have to admit this yarn turns out a very pretty leaf. This uses less than one skein.

Graham Hat

The free Graham pattern uses a mistake rib to produce a highly textured look, perfect for this gender-neutral slouch. One skein is all you need!
