Berocco Indigo: Keeping it Cool with Cotton

Berocco Indigo: Keeping it Cool with Cotton

IMG_8672With so much snow and ice lately, it’s hard to believe that spring is just around the corner!  Hopefully, our newest yarn from Berocco will help bring us a little closer to some warm weather, at least in our knitting and crocheting.  Berocco Indigo is 95% cotton and is made from recycled fibers, making it an animal-free and sustainable.  At 219 yards, this skein of cottony goodness is technically classified as a worsted, but we strongly believe that it knits up more at a DK gauge. With a gorgeous, modern color palette and slightly tweedy appearance, this will make up some gorgeous (and machine washable!) knits that you are sure to rock all spring and summer!

Pattern Inspiration

Probably one of the best things about Indigo is the pattern book that came with it!  I want one of everything!  From start to finish, the collection of patterns is just gorgeous and will work up beautifully!  I’m loving Larkspur, the cover sweater.  With great cable patterns, this fun twist on an aran sweater uses 7 to 11 skeins, depending on your size.

I’m loving the garter stitch detail in Phlox! With it’s interesting lace motifs, this cotton shawl would be an adorable spring accessory!

Cardigans are a staple in every wardrobe.  They are perfect for layering or even as a quick light jacket on the go.  Prickly Poppy is knit in reverse stockinette, which really lets the pattern details show.

And you know I love a lacy sleeveless sweater!  I’m really loving the idea of a plain stockinette stitch on the front with the lace panel on the back, like in Milkweed.  How cute!

Cotton yarns are really ideal in how easy they are to care for.  While it’s great that the Indigo pattern book comes with so many wonderful knits for adults, there really are some amazing patterns for children that would work up beautifully in Indigo.  Whip out a Spring Garden Tee for your tiny person!

For my crocheters, have a little fun with your techniques and try a Broomstick Lace Cowl.  This fun cowl uses broomstick lace to add unique texture and would like great in one Indigo’s colors!
