Jill Draper Makes Stuff has sent us some truly amazing yarns, and I for one am always excited to get something new from her. This time, she sent us a box of her Esopus, a light fingering yarn that I know I can’t wait to work with! Esopus is 100% Merino, making it super soft. With 500 yards in each skein, Esopus has 4 plys to give a little strength and excellent stitch definition. This yarn will be perfect for all sorts of projects, from light sweaters to shawls and wraps! It is $23 per skein.
Pattern Inspiration
With yarn this soft, and colors this good, my first thought was that this yarn needed to be a sweater! I’m thinking something light for spring but practical enough to get me through the whole year, like Walk Along. This fun sweater gives the illusion of a layered look even though it is really one piece. Knit it with short sleeves or with long but either way, with such generous yardage, Walk Along only needs 3-5 skeins, depending on your size.
With such a soft, light-weight yarn, it’s easy to have a little fun with layers. Why just make a hat, when you can make one that is completely reversible, like Mrs. Jekyll & Little Hyde. Pick two fun colors and choose to show your stripes or lacy side!
In the mood to crochet? Check out Clementine Cowl! This cute little cowl features a bubble like fabric that would be adorable on a spring day. It’ll keep you warm without being hot and would be lovely in any of Jill Draper’s amazing colors!
There is always room in your wardrobe for another cardigan. Perfect for layering over a casual top or dressing up an outfit, something like the Sibella Cardigan is a useful piece that can be worn in so many ways! Find the pattern in Carrie Bostick Hoge’s Madder Anthology I, available at the shop!
For a one-skein wonder project, I’m loving Golden Orchids! This beautiful lace shawl would be beautiful in any color and would definitely make a statement.
