If you see Maggie Wissert in fibre space, you might just want to say hello. Why? Well because it’s always good to make friends with a massage therapist.
Maggie has been in the business of soothing muscle malaise for nearly 19 years. Her Touch of Peace Massage Therapy is located in Del Ray (2402 Mt. Vernon Ave. to be exact – just above Yoga in Daily Life) and the “small town community feel” appeals to her, she said. “We all look out for and support one another.”
Maggie trained at the Potomac Massage Training Institute in D.C., graduating in 1996. She currently works with “athletes, children, seniors and everyone in between.”
“I truly believe that listening to my clients needs are paramount,” Maggie said. “I do my very best to address their issues and help resolve them. Also, every client is unique and needs to be treated that way.”
Beyond the stresses of everyday life and lifestyle injuries (weekend warriors, you know who you are), knitters and crocheters have their own special needs when it comes to massage.
As a knitter and crocheter herself, Maggie knows just what to target from her own experience. “Take it from me, whose neck is always tight from looking down at my project, or whose arms and hands get stiff from using my muscles in repetitive movements,” she said, “massage not only benefits the physical aspects of our bodies, it also benefits our mental and overall health.”
Maggie first learned to knit in 2012 at fibre space, and she said she recently taught herself how to crochet with the help of YouTube – and Arthella and Nicole when she got stuck!
“For me, crocheting and knitting are very much like meditation in a way, and my massage work is also meditative. Both take a certain kind of focus and attention to detail,” Maggie said.
Maggie says she gets most of her clients from doctors’ referrals and word of mouth, so the best way to reach her is a good old fashioned phone call: 703-739-9822. If you mention you heard about Maggie and Touch of Peace Massage Therapy through fibre space, she says she will give you $10 off your session. (See, it pays to read our blog!) Gift certificates – which make great gifts, by the way! – also are available.
Happy holidays – and there’s still time to make more gifts!
