Welcome back to space! We’ve had a busy week. Here’s what’s been going on.
New Arrivals
Two trunk shows landed this week! We are delighted to have the Brooklyn Tweed Fall 2014 collection in our shop right now! Stop by and see every garment from these beautiful fisherman inspired knits. The collection will be here for two weeks, through Sunday, November 9. Click here to view the lookbook.
Also arriving this week was the Knightsbridge Collection: a collection of menswear inspired accessory and sweater patterns featuring The Fibre Company Knightsbridge. Stop by and see every garment from the collection at the shop during this month long trunk show. Danielle’s fall sweater class will be teaching the Hawkes pattern from this collection.
Events
Laura Nelkin will be visiting us next week! This lovely designer is known for her lace and beaded jewelry designs along with her positive, ‘you can do it!’ teaching style. Please join us for a weekend of workshops and book signings on November 7-8. Laura will be on hand to celebrate the launch of her first book, Knockout Knits, with a book signing on Friday the 7th at 6 pm. You can purchase a copy of the book in space. Laura will also be teaching three workshops: Knitting Jewelry on Friday, November 7 from 3-6 pm, Knitting with Beads – Chaching Mitts or Tam on Saturday, November 8 from 10 am – 1 pm, and Knitting with Beads – Shawls with Beads on Saturday from 2 – 5 pm. Each workshop costs $65, and kits for the jewelry and Chaching mitts or tam workshops are currently available in the shop.
Classes
Much like reading, knitting is fundamental. Come in and learn some new skills during the month of November.
Learn the basics of knitting with Introduction to Knitting. There are three sessions kicking off in the next week: Tuesday, November 4 at 7 pm, Wednesday, November 5 at 7 pm, and Saturday, November 8 at 5 pm. This three week class costs $75.
Ready to step beyond knitting rectangles? Learn to work in the round with our First Hat – Beanie or Beret Slouch Hat starting Monday, November 10 at 7 pm ($65).
Looking for a more advanced hat class? Our Multi-Color Fair Isle Hat is just the ticket. This two-week class starts Monday, November 3 at 7 pm ($65).
Comfortable working in the round and want to learn specific stitching skills? Try the one-night Butterfly Cowl on Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm ($40).
Want to give lace a chance? Jump in with our Introduction to Lace Stoles, starting Wednesday, November 12 at 7 pm ($65). Learn to knit a classic rectangular stole from the designer, Dee O’Keefe.
Maybe you’d like to learn lace on an object for your home. Our Introduction to Lace – Lace Blanket class meets Monday, November 17 at 7 pm ($40).
Know someone whose feet look a little chilly? Our Beginner Socks or Stockings From the Toe Up will teach you everything you need to keep those feet warm this winter. This three-week class begins Saturday, November 15 at 1 pm ($80).
Our Fall Sweater Class will be teaching and knitting the Hawkes pattern. Taught by Danielle, the shop owner, this class begins Saturday, November 1 at 10 am. ($80)
Want to try your hand at a sweater with color work? Our Fair Isle Pull Over Sweater starts Tuesday, November 11 at 7 pm ($80) and features a sweater inspired by a vintage pattern.
If you’ve been wanting to learn to crochet, we’ve got a new session of Introduction to Crochet starting on Thursday, October 30 at 7 pm. This three week class costs $75.
Perhaps you’ve got the hooking basics down but wanted to expand your crochet skills, Crochet Lace Hat is coming up on Sunday, November 9 at 3 pm. This two week class costs $60.
Love the idea of fingerless mitts and learning new crochet stitches? Our Crochet Fingerless Mitts on Monday, November 17 at 7 pm ($40) will teach you everything you need to know.
Or, maybe you’d like to learn to spin your own yarn. We can help with that. Our two week Spinning 101 begins Sunday, November 2 from 2 – 4 pm ($65) and teaches the fundamentals of spinning with a drop spindle.
What’s Hot
Week five of the Fall Knitalong with Miss Babs is on the books, and we’re starting to see some finished sweaters trickle in! Your yarnistas and Danielle aren’t quite that far along, but we’re all enjoying the process.
