Knitters Gerry Rogers and Rebecca Henry may be familiar faces around fibre space, but these two women also are owners of the highly regarded Petal’s Edge Floral Design and Old Town neighbors, at nearby 624 N. Washington Street.

The pair have been in business for 10 years now and have been located in Old Town for eight. Gerry and Rebecca say they love being in Old Town because of the “buildings and history, restaurants and shops.”
The thing that makes Petal’s Edge unique is, as florists go, they are highly specialized, they said. “Rather than manage the day-to-day responsibilities of a shop, we are focused only on special events. … we serve a clientele of couples getting married and are open only by appointment.”
“Our first full year in business we were honored to be named to the Washingtonian’s list of best wedding vendors,” Gerry and Rebecca said in an email interview. “We have remained on the list for the past eight years, and additionally, have been honored by Bride’s and The Knot magazines. Our work has been featured in several wedding magazines and notable blogs.”

Not surprisingly, the floral and event industry shares a lot of the same color trends we see in yarn and the fashion industry, Gerry and Rebecca said, despite flowers being a different “texture.” And they feel their work as floral designers enhances their knitting hobby — and vice versa.
The business partners also pointed out that, similar to how knitting and crocheting now spans generations, many of their clients are also a wide variety of ages – from 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond.

Petal’s Edge can be found online on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, but people most often reach out to them by phone (703-518-8488) or email (info@petalsedge.com).
However you do it, check out these local knitters and business-owners — and be sure to say hello the next time you see them in space!
