Fall Knitalong with Miss Babs – Week 5

Fall Knitalong with Miss Babs – Week 5

Don’t look now, but we’re officially past the halfway mark in this knitalong. How’s your sweater coming? We’re starting to see some finished projects (speed demons!) We love seeing your progress regardless of where you may be in the process.

As for us, Trudy and I are working on sleeves while Danielle and Kim are striping away and finishing up their bodies. It’s been interesting to watch our collective progress and learn about our individual knitting processes. Danielle’s sweater was held up a bit during the week that she made a second sweater for Rhinebeck. (You read that right. She made a sweater in six days. Check it out on Ravelry. She also made the Howlcat that’s perched jauntily on the blonde mannequin in our front room.) Kim’s been working on her sweater, while also working on a handful of other projects. Trudy’s a really fast knitter. Like a really, really fast knitter.

I have a confession to make. I’m about halfway through the sleeves, but I’m not a particularly fast knitter. I’m a monogamous knitter. I know, it seems a little weird to a lot of people. I definitely didn’t start out this way. I’d always been someone to get that thrill of inspiration and cast on with reckless abandon, only to move on to the next project after a couple inches or sittings. I was in something of a love ’em and leave ’em cycle, until I realized that I was always knitting but not really completing projects. A year or two ago, I started focusing on a couple of projects at a time. I’d have some combination of mindless knitting (that huge afghan that looks like it’ll never get done), something interesting (usually cables or some cool stitch pattern or construction technique), and then an attainable goal (I’m looking at you hats). Since I’ve started working at fibre space I’ve worked on one thing at a time, and I’ve knocked out two hats, two shawls, a pair of socks, a cowl, and now most of this sweater. The finishings on all those pieces aren’t completely done, but the pile of FOs gives me such a sense of satisfaction and, more importantly, makes me want to knit more.

However you knit, whatever your style, rock on. Please keep sharing your progress with us. It’s really inspiring to see how everyone’s making this project their own! And as a reminder, should you be among the set to finish on or before November 13, you’ll be entered to win free yarn. See you in space!
