After you stop by the shop for the launch of Woolfolk yarn on Saturday (hey, priorities), I highly recommend you make your way over to Del Ray for Art on the Avenue.

Hailed as a multicultural arts & music festival, the event features more than 300 artists, musicians and food vendors and has something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

The handmade items at the festival are vast, including jewelry – both silver and beaded, pottery, soap, glass items, paintings and sculptures. You won’t go hungry, either. Among the treats you’ll find are barbecue, crab cakes, jerk chicken, chocolate bananas on a stick and (hello, autumn) cider doughnuts.

While the adults are entertained by one of the music stages (note: they will be selling musicians’ CDs at the Art on the Avenue Festival Store), kids will stay busy at one of the many interactive art stations. Some highlights of the kids’ activities include spinning top-making, instrument-making, sand mandalas and DIY scarecrows. There also are demonstrations of screenprinting, painting by local artists, yoga and more.

Of course, to up the retro factor, you’ll also find that classic of all classic festival events: a pie-baking contest. Anyone can enter, but your pie must be delivered between 10 a.m. and noon. (Make note, bakers. There’s a form on the festival website.) You also can buy slices once judging is over, which they estimate will happen around 1 p.m.

Art on the Avenue runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located on Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray, between Bellefonte and Hume avenues.
