We love our hand-dyes here at the shop and nothing makes us happier than introducing new ones. Meet the newest addition to our hand-dyed family: Gynx Yarns. Specializing in beautiful self-striping and variegated yarns, Gynx Yarns mixes bright, beautiful colors and yummy bases to create yarns that will be perfect for socks, shawls, and other colorful accessories that will brighten up your fall wardrobe.
Dyed and owned exclusively by Laura Jinks Jimenez, Gynx Yarns started small, dyeing part-time. After graduating from college, Laura began dyeing full time, taking her inspiration from a variety of sources such as movies, T.V. shows, video games, and anime. In addition to dyeing, Laura also hosts The Dyer’s Notebook Podcast, offering tips on dyeing, knitting, and spinning.
First on our roster of Gynx Yarns goodies is a Strong Sport. At 328 yards per skein, Strong Sport is 80% superwash Merino, 20% Nylon and 100% perfect for every knitter’s needs. ($30 each) Pick up a skein for some seriously gorgeous socks or some equally gorgeous mitts or hats. With theses fun colors, you really can’t go wrong! And if you like Strong Sport, Strong Sock will be coming soon to satisfy your every fingering weight need!
Pattern Inspiration
This yarn is perfect for socks! With stripes already built into the yarn, any basic sport weight pattern would be fantastic but why not break free of the basic with something like Anne Hanson’s Tidelines.
Play with color by whipping up a pair of Chaos Theory Mitts by Ann Weaver! Just one skein is plenty for a fun and colorful pair or take a page out of Ann’s book and use two contrasting skeins for more variety! Best of all, this pattern is free on our blog!
Fall is the best time year for hats in my opinion and I’m thinking something bright and stripey would be a great addition to any fall wardrobe. Try Ida’s Kitchen by Kirsten Kapur for a fun and easy chevron hat!
