I’ll admit it: I have a bit of a thing for tweed. I love it! It’s just so…classic. Nothing makes me happier than some tweed accessories to go with my winter coat or a smart tweed sweater in the fall. It’s perfect. So with my little tweed obsession, I’m very excited to announce the arrival of Rowan Felted Tweed DK. This blend of 50% Merino, 25% Alpaca, and 25% Rayon is soft, but sticky making it perfect for fair isle knitting. At 191 yards per skein, one is perfect for a great accessory like mitts but at just $12.50 per skein, it’s still a great choice for a full sweater quantity. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on this tweedy goodness?
Pattern Inspiration:
Anyone familiar with Rowan knows the frustration of falling in love with the perfect Rowan pattern on Ravelry only to find that the pattern is only available in their hard copy collections. Well, I’m happy to announce that Rowan has finally heard our prayers and is putting many of our favorite patterns on Ravelry for single purchase! Perfect timing, since Kim Hargreaves’ Salina would be gorgeous in 6-7 skeins of Felted Tweed DK!
If a pullover is not really your thing, why not try Peasy by Heidi Kirrmaier? With just a touch of lace, this cardigan is simple and classic. Combined with Felted Tweed DK’s earthy colors and fabulous “tweedy” specks, it’s a perfect knit!
For something a little less warm, go for a shrug like Churchmouse’s Smocked Lace Wrap and Shrug, a really transitional knit that is great for just a little fall chill. Knits up with just 3 skeins of Felted Tweed DK!
Now, I love a good tweedy sweater but for me, nothing quite beats a tweed accessory. Try a Porom by Jared Flood. This classic slouchy hat features a pretty lace repeat that works perfectly with the yarn and only uses 1 skein to make.
A new hat needs new mittens and Churchmouse’s Welted Fingerless Gloves uses only 1 skein! And aren’t all those buttons up the side adorable?
For some fair isle fun, I’m loving Adrian Bizilia’s Fiddlehead Mittens! They look great in several different colors but would work up just as beautifully in only two, making these mittens a great twist on a very traditional mitten.
