Eastside KAL 4: Make 11 and Wrap It Up!

Eastside KAL 4: Make 11 and Wrap It Up!

As we approach the end of July, we approach the end of the Eastside knitalong. First, I hope everyone has received the updated pattern via Ravelry. Check your libraries for version 2 before you begin the border!

The only difficult part of the border pattern is the make 11 (m11) stitch. Here’s how to do it.

You'll be working the m11 in the k3tog stitch from the previous round (this makes it easy to keep track of where you are).

K1 into the stitch, but do not take it off the left needle. Wrap the yarn around the right needle (yo).

Repeat the previous step 4 times, for a total of 5 (k1, yo) in the stitch. Then knit 1 more in the stitch.
Repeat the previous step 4 times, for a total of 5 (k1, yo) in the stitch. Then knit 1 more in the stitch. Here, I’ve (k1, yo) 3 times and have knit 1 more, so there are 7 stitches on my right needle that have been made from the single stitch (which is still on the left needle). I need to yo, k1, yo, k1 to complete the m11.
M11 finished! Count the 11 stitches on the right needle. If you lose track of how many times you've k1, yo, just count these loops until there are 11. Then drop the original stitch from the left needle.

When you reach the m11 stitches on the next round, you’ll be able to knit into each of the 11 loops with no problems or special tricks. That’s it!

I just bound off my Eastside, knit from a Neighborhood Fiber Co. Yipes Stripes kit. I improvised my color changes to accommodate the fifth color. You can tell I ran out of blue for the border, so I worked the last three rounds in yellow. I have yet to block it (note the curling bind off edge, which blocking remedies).

Thanks for knitting along, everyone!
