Friday was our annual store-wide mega sale – Black Friday! Those of you who know me, know that I love the day after Thanksgiving. Traditionally (before I owned a retail shop), I would get up early and drive to the mall just to people watch in the early hours. I loved watching the mayhem from afar. The lines outside of the toystores were always my favorite. The year that the Tickle Me Elmo was the hot item, the crowds were a tad hostile.
Well over here in Old Town, we do things a little differently. The local boutiques and locally owned businesses usually can’t offer enormous discounts. Our margins just aren’t the same. But the day after Thanksgiving is the one day that almost everyone in town offers some deal (up to 30% off at most) from 6-8 am. Here in space, our Black Friday sale usually has a line around the block. This year, with larger store space, everyone in line at 6 am got in the doors!
The week was busy for me with many tv appearances talking about the importance of shopping locally.
Our line party was fun as usual! Folks brought lawn chairs, blankets and knitting!
We had a ton of fun that day and some very special former staff made an appearance to help out as well – thank you to Sarah, Lesley and Daphne!!
