Nicole Cowl

nicolecowl2This bulky weight quick knit was inspired by a more expensive version in a large retailer this season. Our version features a thick and thin yarn for added texture.

Materials

  • Rowan Thick and Thin (50 yards / 50 gram) – 4 balls
  • US #13 24″ circular needle
  • Stitch marker

Abbreviations

PM – place marker

Elongated stitch – Knit 1, but wrap yarn 3 times around needle instead of once, before drawing new stitch through previous stitch.

Gauge

10 sts and 13 rows on US 13

Finished measurements:

36″ circumference and 13″ wide

Instructions:

Cast on 90 sts

PM and join to work in the round.

Work 10 rounds garter st beg with knit round.

Pattern repeat:

*Work elongated stitch for 1 round

Knit one round, dropping the extra wraps as stitch is pulled off left needle.

Work 9 more rounds in garter beg with knit.*

Work pattern repeat from * to * 3 total times.

Bind off loosely.

Finishing:

Steam cowl to block. Wrap remaining yarn around a book and cut to make several equal sized pieces of fringe. Attach evenly along one edge of cowl.
