The Pantone Color Institute® has declared that the color of 2013 is Emerald! “a lively, radiant, lush green, Emerald is the color of the year for 2013.”
I have to admit, as a jewel tone addict, I approve! As you can imagine, we have lots of emerald options at the shop, since I am always stuffing the shelves with anything saturated and jewel colored.
BUT, since you are likely to find lots of this color in the stores this year, start thinking about accessory patterns that you can knit or crochet in colors that compliment emerald. (Since it is pretty likely that emerald rain coats, shirts and skirts will be lining the shelves at your favorite clothing boutique).
If you aren’t sure how to pick complementary colors, be sure to grab a Color Grid the next time you are in the shop. It is a handy color card that helps you determine how to best coordinate colors – super helpful for the color stumped.

In my trip around the shop today, I couldn’t stop grabbing Neighborhood Fibre Co in Rock Creek Park from all over the place. We have this amazing emerald shade in almost every yarn base from NFC. It was already my favorite shade from Karida! Now I have even more reason to wear it this season. Check out our slide show, which includes amazing shades of emerald in the store and slides that show Rock Creek Park paired with various fab colors that pair nicely with it.
