Gauge
28 sts and 32 rows = 4″/10cm over washed and blocked St st with one strand of each yarn held together
NOTE
Shawl is worked holding two yarns together. Because of the nature of steel yarn, the gauge can fluctuate over the course of the work. When purling across all sts, the short-row wraps are always picked up and worked together with the sts they are wrapped around.
TECHNIQUES
Crochet Provisional Cast On: With scrap yarn make a slip knot loop, put it on the crochet hook. Then holding the knitting needle in your left hand, and the crochet hook in your right hand, *bring the yarn behind the needle. Bring the crochet hook in front of the needle and yarn over the hook. Pull a loop through the stitch on the crochet hook. One stitch has been cast on the needle. Repeat from * until required number of stitches have been cast on. Fasten off. To remove the scrap yarn later, pick out the fastened-off end and unravel the chain.
Crochet Bind Off: This bind off is just like a regular knitted bind off, except done with a crochet hook in your right hand instead of a knitting needle.
Insert hook kwise into first st on needle, yarn over hook and pull through st, drop st from needle. 1 loop on hook. *Insert hook kwise into next st, yarn over hook and pull through st, then through loop on hook to BO 1 st, drop st from left needle. Repeat from * until required number of sts have been bound off.
Short Rows W&t (wrap and turn), WS row: Sl next st pwise wyif, bring yarn to back between needles, return slipped st to left needle, turn work. To pick up and purl a wrap tog with the wrapped st on a WS row, insert the right needle into the wrap from underneath on the back side (RS) of the work, then into the wrapped st, and purl them together.
Instructions

FINISHING
Make sure to drop all 19 ladders all the way to the CO edge. Then unravel scrap yarn from provisional cast on and with WS facing, place the live stitches onto the same needle with the other sts. With RS facing, using larger crochet hook, join yarns and bind off as follows: *(BO 5 sts using the crochet method, then chain 3 over the drop-st ladder) 19 times, BO 5 sts; repeat from * once more. The 3-st chains above each ladder give the BO edge the necessary slack for blocking. Cut yarn leaving a generous tail. Weave in both tails. Soak in warm water, block to shape and measurements.
