It’s 2 weeks til Christmas Do you know where all you gifts are? If you are in need of a quick, adorable last minute present, we feel your pain. We also have just the thing for you. This sweet cowl can be knit up in an afternoon or less, and the recipient is sure to love it! We knit this in a variegated yarn for extra color, but it would look great as a solid too.
Lorelei Cowl
By Lesley Packel
Materials
- 1 skein of Noro Hitsuji (110 yards bulky weight yarn)
- US 11 circular needles, 32″
- Stitch marker
- Darning needle
Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.
Directions
Using crochet cast on method, cast on 64 stitches (note: you can use other cast on methods, but this one will keep the color pattern in the yarn consistent. Click here for a quick tutorial). Join to work in the round, making sure not to twist the cast on edge. Place marker at the start of the row.
Row 1: purl all stitches
Row 2: purl 1, knit 1 below*
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until cowl is desired size, ending with row 2. Bind off in knit 1, purl 1 rib.
Weave in ends, and block. It may take longer for your cowl to dry than it took to knit it!
*Knit 1 Below
If you need some help with the knit 1 below stitch, here’s a quick photo tutorial. Knit 1 below is very similar to knitting, you will just put the needle into the stitch below the one on the needle, as pictured in the first image below. When you pull the old stitch off the needle, the purl from the previous row will also drop off, creating a longer stitch, which is pictured in the second image below.
