Four years ago, we opened our doors at 6 am for something unheard of in Old Town – a giant Black Friday / Day After Thanksgiving Sale. You all came out and stood in the cold long line and waited for over an hour to get yarn, needles and accessories at 25% off. It was epic! I shared our success with a few other stores and the next year, three or four other shops opened early. Then last year there were over 30 shops offering big deals, most opening at 6 am.
I seem to have started something very big here. This year the city is offering free parking all day at meters and garages. (The garages are open early too!) The trolley is running at 6 am to get shoppers up and down King Street. And over FIFTY stores are offering big deals. It is amazing!
Even if you aren’t a “Black Friday” shopper, this is a day you don’t want to miss. While there are a few lines, no one is stampeding over anyone to get new running shoes at Pacers or a Kate Spade purse from the Shoe Hive. In almost every store, the shop owner is going to be working that day – providing you with customer service that you won’t find at a mall. And most importantly, the deals can’t be beat. You can find things here in Old Town that you won’t find at your big box stores and at a price that you won’t find any other time of the year. AND by shopping locally, you are supporting your home town. Your dollars stay here.

TIP: Last year, folks who got into line after 6 am didn’t get into the shop by 8 am for the full 30% off. Our discount drops to 20% at 8 am and then 10% at 10 am.
