fibre space™ is so excited to welcome Tina Whitmore of Freia Yarns into our hand dyer family! Like us, Tina is proud to bring as many of their fibres as possible from within the USA, and they source their yarns directly from a mill, which keeps costs down and is ultimately better for the environment.
Not to mention, Freia’s colors are honestly out of this world. Tina uses locally manufactured acid dyes which guarantee consistency, and has developed her own dyeing process to deliver the amazing long color runs that make these yarns stand out from the rest. It is a very labor intensive, hands-on process, which helps ensure that skeins from different lots match very well (though no two skeins will ever been the same). The final product is wonderfully soft and beautiful!
We have ordered several yarns from Freia, but we are welcoming the Ombre Lace first, which is a laceweight blend of 75% wool from Colorado spun with 25% nylon for some added strength. Each ball weighs 75 grams and has a generous 645 yards ($32). We brought in all 10 colorways, so be sure to stop in and check them out in person.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the amazing colors, you aren’t alone! Tina has put together a sensational pattern collection that complements the long color changes in her yarns to a T. Our favorites are the Sonoma Scarf (shown right) and the Radiance Shawlette, but be sure to check them out on her website here.
