As I always say, knitters are everywhere

As I always say, knitters are everywhere

Busy busy two days. I did try to locate the Silken Straw at just about every yarn shop in Pittsburgh with no luck. Its the color “mica” that I am looking for…I might try Ravelry next. I saw a comment come through from someone panicked that they had taken my hank of silken straw. No worries! It wasn’t you 🙂

On the way to the burgh my stepmom called to tell me that their horse had just foaled and that I would be able to see a foal only a few hours old when I got there. He was adorable! Still very wobbly but super cute.

foal The one in the stall next to him was a week old and a bit more stable on his feet. I grew up with new foals on our farm all spring so it was a real treat to be around them again. It has been years.

I visited two fabulous cupcakes places in my search for the most amazing cupcakes for the wedding reception. The first was Vanilla Pastry Studio whose bright interior and amazingly light cupcakes were a real treat. We picked out our top flavors: Key lime pie, carrot cake and chocolate filled with chocolate mouse. The event planner in me told me to wait on giving them a deposit and actually go to my second tasting the next day.

Boy am I glad that I did! Dozen Cupcake is so fab. The owner met with me to discuss what flavors would be available in May during our reception and how they would be able to present the cupcakes. He buys all of his dairy and eggs from a local farmer and gave me three people to talk to about eco friendly floral arrangements.  My favorite three favorite flavors from that shop: chocolate stout, the cosmo (vodka soaked cranberries in a vanilla cake topped with tinted buttercream and rolled around the rim in pink sugar), and the Elvis (banana cake, chocolate mouse filling and peanut butter topping). So back to why knitters are everywhere:

On the drive home I passed a mini van with “k2,p2” on the back bumper. I drove by slowly hoping that she would see the “ssk” on the back of my car 🙂 I wish there were a universal symbol for “hey, I am a knitter too” that we could give to one another on the metro, in the airport or in passing traffic…kinda like fraternities do. Someone come up with one!

Then the caterer called to give me the good news that he was able to get the price down to below the # that I had wanted. We started chatting (I was sitting in stopped traffic on 270 so I had time to chat) and he asked about my business. When he found out that i was a knitter, he was super excited. He said that he listens to a radio show hosted by Bob Dylan on Sirius satellite and that Dylan had told a knitting joke the day before:

So I was driving down the road and this woman next to me in traffic was knitting. The cop behind us saw her and pulled up beside her, rolled down the window and said, ‘Pullover!’ The woman yelled back, ‘No, they are socks!’
