Just a reminder to join me this Saturday, October 25th at Buzz Bakery in Alexandria, VA from 2-4 p.m. for a wonderful event to benefit our Marines. Buzz Bakery is located on Slater’s Lane in North Alexandria, VA.
We have confirmed that a very special guest (think five star general sorta guest) will be joining to knit with us!
The Knitting For Marines project is an on-going effort to make and distribute helmet liners to Marines stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The liners help to protect our Marines and keep them warm during the harsh winters in these countries.
If you don’t know how to knit in the round, this is a great time to learn. Instructors will be on site to help you through the project. If you are an experienced knitter and wish to get an early start on the project, you may download the knitting pattern.
Patterns will be provided the day of the event and yarn and needles will be available for purchase from Knit Happens at the event (cash only) or you may purchase your supplies ahead of time:
- US size 6 and 8 circular needles (16”) and a set of US size 8 double pointed needles (or size to get 4.5 st/inch with larger needles).
- 100% wool (superwash is fine) and in either tan, brown, black or charcoal (our Marines strongly prefer tan). Only 100% soft wool yarn will be accepted, because our Armed Forces are not allowed to wear synthetic fibers outside the wire. Wool is inherently non-flammable and won’t melt against the skin in the event of an accident and is warm even when wet.
Hope to see you all there to enjoy some quality knitting time for a good cause and sample some of those amazing Buzz cupcakes!
