Knitting for men

Knitting for men

So Cameronne is brave and knitted her husband this wonderful sweater for their anniversary, which he apparently won’t take off. How do folks feel about knitting for their men? I was thinking of offering a men’s sweater option for the winter schedule. The cons of knitting for men from my view:

  • they are big humans…lots of stitches and lots of yarn. It takes some serious time to knit a man sweater
  • they are picky about their knitwear. Some men won’t wear sweaters, or won’t wear sweaters that are interesting at all to knit (cables, fair isle, etc)
  • the sweater curse…there is a widely held belief that you can’t knit a sweater for a boyfriend, only a husband. The sweater curses the relationship and it will inevitably end before you get the sweater done.

Despite this, I have purchased yarn for a sweater for Phil but haven’t started it. He doesn’t seem all that excited about getting a hand knit sweater so until he shows some enthusiasm, that yarn is going to stay where it is. Anyone have a man that shows some interest in receiving a hand knit sweater?
