Yesterday I swatched for Rusted Root and did a bit of reading through the pattern in preparation for the class that it has inspired. It is a three week class on Mondays in June, starting June 2nd. (And for you drinkers out there, this one is being held at a local Irish pub in Arlington!) I stumbled across the Zephyr Girls patterns a few months ago and have become completely addicted. I am working on getting a certain LYS to carry their patterns soon…
Anyways, back to Rusted Root. I am making this one with a little longer sleeve, since this adorable balloon sleeve would make me look like a linebacker. So if the sleeves on this pattern are a deterrent, no fear! I am re-writing the pattern for those of us with actual shoulders.
The yarn options for this one are rather exciting. There are some amazing dk weight yarns out right now for the summer. I am using Debbie Bliss Cathay, a blend of cotton, rayon and silk that is just gorgeous to work with and has an amazing shine. I might also suggest Debbie Bliss Prima, which is a merino bamboo blend that I love love love.
The pattern looks like it will offer some intermediate level lace skills and of course simple sweater shaping. I would recommend this class for someone who can knit and purl and has done either some working in the round or some increasing and decreasing.
