Bold Brioche


Worked on giant yarn and needles, this long scarf will take no time at all to finish!

Materials

  • MC: 1 skein Neighborhood Fiber Co Rustic Bulky (140 yards / 250 grams)
  • CC: 2 cakes Freia Ombré Super Bulky (87 yards / 150 grams)
  • US#19 (15 mm) 24″ circular needle

Gauge

6 st per 4″ in brioche pattern

Finished Measurements

12′ long and 8″ wide

Abbreviations:

 

  • SL1 (slip 1): slip the next stitch purlwise
  • BRK (brioche knit 2 together): knit next knit stitch together with its yarnover
  • BRP (brioche purl 2 together): purl next purl stitch together with its yarnover
  • YF-SL1-YO (yarn forward, slip 1, yarn over): Bring yarn to front of work, slip one purlwise, bring yarn over right needle to back of work
  • YF-SL1-YOF (yarn forward, slip 1, yarn over to the front): yarn is already at front, slip next stitch purlwise, then bring yarn over the needle and over the slipped stitch and then back to the front again.

 

Directions

Using CC and the 1×1 Tubular cast on, CO 13 sts (You may also simply cast on using your preferred method)

Join MC:
Slip 1, *knit 1, YF-SL1-YO, repeat from * to last two sts, K1, sl1
Do not turn work. Slide stitches back to beginning.

***With CC: P1, *YF-SL1-YOF, BRP, repeat from * until 2 remain, YF-SL1-YOF, P1
TURN
With MC: SL1, BRP, *slYO, BRP, repeat to last stitch, drop CC, SL1

Do not turn work. Slide stitches back to beginning.
K1, YF-SL1-YO, *BRK, YF-SL1-YO, repeat from * to last st, K1
TURN
With CC: SL1, BRK, *YF-SL1-YO, BRK, repeat from * to last st, drop C at back, SL1
Do not turn work. Slide stitches back to beginning.***

Repeat Start from *** again until you have used half of MC. (I recommend that you use a scale to monitor this. Cut CC and rejoin second ball of CC at same color that just ended. This will allow you to use almost every bit of the MC up.

Use 1X1 tubular bind off to finish scarf or preferred method if tubular cast on was not used.
