The Fibre Company makes some gorgeous yarns. And one of our favorites, the aran weight Terra, has been improved!
Now, usually when you hear “improved,” your ears perk up and you immediately wonder what the company has messed up. … Oh, just me? Well still. No need for concern here. Terra is the same slightly slubby, delicious, 40-40-20 alpaca-merino-silk blend with colors you can’t stop staring at as before. The improvement comes in a much needed and much appreciated increase in the yardage per skein. In fact, it’s now double the put-up, with 196 yards each! This makes it much better for say, a sweater, so you don’t have to weave in quite so many ends.
Speaking of sweaters, in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s suddenly sweater season. In celebration of this, the yarniest of seasons, we’re hosting a fall Terra knitalong, starting Thursday at Stitch in Space! We have three sweater options picked out for you. Each are pretty in their own way and we’re having a hard time deciding which one to make! Don’t get us started on the colors…

Up first is the very special Yarn Shop Love pattern Demeter by Courtney Kelley, which is free with your yarn purchase at fibre space. (We <3 you, too, Kelbourne Woolens!) This cowl-neck pattern is top-down and seamless. It’s shown in Belladonna (so pretty!) and you’ll need between 5 and 9 skeins, depending on your size.

If you’d prefer a cardigan, you might like the Barn Sweater by Carrie Bostick Hoge, from Madder Anthology 2, available at fibre space. This top-down cardi, shown in Black Locust Bark, is knit flat in a reverse stockinette with garter trim. And — bonus! — this sweater has pockets. Choose from either long or 3/4-length sleeves. Naturally, that decision will alter how much yarn you need for the project. For 3/4 sleeves, that ranges from 6 to 10 skeins; full length requires 7 to 11.

Our final pick for the knitalong is the casual and cozy Rosemont Cardigan by Hannah Fettig, published in “Home & Away” and available at fibre space. This top-down, raglan sleeve cardigan is an open design, which means there are no buttons or buttonholes to fuss with, and features a shawl collar. This sample is knit up in Blue Spruce and you will need 6 to 11 skeins of yarn, depending on your size.
Stop by the shop ASAP to get the best color selection for your yarn, and to talk out your pattern pick!
