Wendy Johnson was here on Friday! She signed many books and chatted about socks and shawls. I was pretty insistent that there be socks above her head 🙂 We still have copies of both of Wendy’s books at the shop, if you missed the event.
Saturday, I and millions of other people got on the metro and went to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms. My nephew seems to like all things plant-like.
On Sunday morning, I finally finished the Easter basket!
I also started and finished the most adorable waistcoat for Michael. The pattern is from Seaside Babes, a Sirdar pattern book available at the shop. When he came into the shop on Friday, I held two colors of Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Dyed Cotton up to him and asked him to pick one. (He is 13 months old, so this wasn’t easy to communicate.) He stared at them both for a really really long time, as if it was the most important decision of his life. Then he grabbed the green color and held onto to it. He seemed to enjoy watching me knit on the green yarn all weekend. There was a bit of swearing…as the back came out way too big. I called the shop and as soon as I asked Veronica what was going on, I realized what I had done. I missed row 7 entirely, which has you decrease quite a few stitches after the ribbed edging, so there were 10-12 too many stitches on the back, making it a good inch to two inches too large. This was my solution:
Seems to work, eh? At least it can be let out when he gets bigger…
Here is the little guy finding incredibly unhidden eggs in the park:
