Our beginner class is ideal for those who are completely new to the craft or who haven’t knitted in many years and need a full refresher. Students must be 16 and older to enroll. \nSkills learned\n\nknit stitch\npurl stitch\ncast on\nbind off\n“tinking” or working back\ncommon knitting terms\nfull fibre education\n\nMaterials (all available at the shop for a 10% discount for your first class)\n\n250-300 yards worsted-weight wool\, wool blend\, or other natural fibre in a light color. There have been big changes with the city that have made this event logistically easier to pull off\, and it is now one of the best weekends to be in Old Town!  \nFun fact: Did you know that the Alexandria Sidewalk Sale is one of the longest-running retail events in the entire DMV\, and is still entirely organized by volunteers in our own retailer community? DESCRIPTION:Got a dream project you’d like to tackle? Nervous about trying a new technique or something big? Let’s do it together! This group class will allow students to bring in the project of their choice\, whether it’s a new cast on or something that’s been languishing in the WIP pile. Work through questions or tricky sections with an instructor’s guidance and your fellow knitters’ encouragement. \nSkills needed:\n\n\nBasic knit skills are required. DESCRIPTION:Gain the foundations of the knitting craft and start your first scarf! \nThree 1.5-hour classes \nSkills needed\nAbsolutely none! Our beginner class is ideal for those who are completely new to the craft or who haven’t knitted in many years and need a full refresher. DESCRIPTION:Interested in delving into the wild world of socks? Or maybe you want to learn a new heel technique or knit a sock from a different direction (top down or toe up!). This class is all about exploring the different ways to make a sock. We’ll talk about how to measure your foot\, what kind of fibers work best for socks\, and the different styles of small-circumference knitting. We’ll also explore different types of heels and toes. First-time sock knitters or those looking to explore magic loop or flexible double-pointed needles can choose a classic top-down sock like I’m So Basic Socks\, or one with just enough texture to keep things interesting. Looking to explore the world of toe-up socks? DRK Everyday Socks are for you if you like a dependable ribbed sock\, or Socks on a Plane if you want to throw a simple cable in.
