Pleated Issey Scarf Workshop with Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Create this stylish accessory that features architectural accordion pleats that don’t disappear after washing and blocking! The essence of this class is to learn how to work short-rows while simultaneously implementing them into the stitch pattern and how to chart and build them on graph paper.

One 4 hour session

Skills required: knit, purl, cast on, bind off

Skills learned:

  • Crochet Chain Cast On
  • slip stitch pattern
  • short rows simultaneously while working slip stitch patterning
  • read and build charts with short rows according to your width and tip preference

Materials:

*Scarf measures 86” long (from longest tip to another), 4″ wide or 8″ wide (once pleated). Sample shown in photos is a narrow version with one blunt end and one sharp end.

  • 720 (1140) yards of any heavy fingering or sport weight yarn
  • US#5 (3.75 mm) or use needle size to obtain gauge
  • Square or dot grid notebook, pen/pencil
  • Stitch markers
  • Purchase and print and bring to class the Issey Scarf pattern

Homework:

Make a swatch to obtain gauge, do not cut the yarn of the swatch from the ball. Bring swatch to class.

Gauge is 24 sts and 38 rows in 4”/10cm over washed and blocked St st swatch measured once dry.
