On New Year’s Day each year, we host a special Cast On Party with a specially chosen yarn and project just for ourselves. We believe in kicking off the new year with a positive, exciting, and creative start. This year, we’ve chosen a theme of sparkle and shine by featuring our most glittery of yarns to help us all stitch our way into a bright 2025:
For more sparkle, we’ve included several patterns featuring beads, as well! Don’t save these glittering yarns just for special events—add some glam or twinkle to an everyday item to brighten your spirits. Below, we have included many patterns and suggested yarn combinations highlighting these luxurious yarns and beading techniques for both knitting and crochet. Choose from one below or from something that you’ve been excited to cast on for awhile. There are no rules!
Come to the shop anytime on New Year’s Day (10 am to 7 pm) and join us in the second-floor lounge to cast on your first project of 2025. Or, enjoy your New Year’s Day from home, and cast on with us in spirit! Show us all your WIPs on Ravelry and Instagram so we can see how you sparkle and shine your way into 2025.
The yarnistas love a good beret! We like sport weight Glitterati with 0.8mm beads for a dazzling ombre beret, sure to turn heads.

This classic brioche hat would look amazing with Miss Babs’ Estrellita as the contrast yarn and another fingering weight yarn, like Miss Babs’ Yummy 2-Ply or Manos del Uruguay’s Alegria, as the main color.

These crocheted mitts would look amazing in Miss Babs Estrellita as the color-shifting main and a contrast in another fingering weight yarn like Salty Blonde’s Fingering Weight!

The yarnistas are casting on this timeless pattern as you read this! We’re thinking of using Kremke Soul Wool Stellaris held with Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift and with Knitting for Olive Soft as Silk Mohair for the sparkliest fuzziest mittens possible.

Cast on with Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply, de rerum Natura’s Berenice (or Kremke Soul Wool Stellina for added sparkle), and add some 8/10 Miyuki seed beads for socks you’ll reach for again and again!

Have some fun using Freia Glitterati with The Periwinkle Sheep’s Sport Wolle–you can use the same for contrast and main for each sock, or switch it up to have a unique pair!

The book Memory Lane: Embellished Knits to Cherish is a shop favorite. This delicate beaded lace top with its dainty collar would be beautiful in De Rerum Natura Berenice and Kremke Soul Wool Stellaris, and 3 mm beads. You can find the yarn and the book in the shop!

Using aran weight yarn and 0.75mm beads, we love the idea of this in the 100% Rambouillet Jill Draper Empire, or in Knitting for Olive Merino Heavy held with Kremke Soul Wool Stellaris for a fuzzy and extra glam version!

With its geometric pattern and cute pockets, how could you not want to cast on the Sparky Sweater? We love the idea of using Freia Gliterati for the contrast color and Di Gilpin Lalland for a main.

Astrid Sweater is worked in stockinette stitch from the bottom up, both flat and in the round. The bottom hem is curved with splits in each side. The sweater was designed using 1 strand of Merino + 1 strand of Soft Silk Mohair held together throughout but substitute Stellaris for the Mohair to add a bit of sparkle!
