Fascination Wrap Workshop with Xandy Peters

April 5 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join designer Xandy Peters to learn his amazing colorful wrap pattern!

In this class, students will start a stacked stitch project and learn this exciting technique in a way that is tailored to fit the mindset of a lace or stranded colorwork knitter. Stacked stitches are a type of increase and decrease used to create vertical movement within a row and extreme, wavy stripes without stranding on the wrong side of the piece or the use of other traditional colorwork methods. After an introduction to the basic principles of this technique in class, we will cast on a scarf or swatch and discover how each row of stitches fits together to form a flat fabric. We will learn how to move markers, keep track of stitch count, and to fix mistakes in a stack pattern. We will also learn to weave in ends at the end of each color stripe to save time during finishing.

Skills needed:

This class is best suited for advanced-level knitters or adventurous beginners who prefer reading charts.

About this design:

The Fascination Wrap is inspired by mid-century modern upholstery fabric. The project takes cues from colorful, mix-and-match interior design trends of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Stacked stitches and chevron stripes take a pattern often seen in upholstery fabric and housewares and transforms it into a versatile knitting project with many possibilities for color, pattern, and form. Instructions are provided in written and chart form.

Materials needed:

  • Worsted-weight scrap yarn in multiple colors
  • 3+ colors of fingering weight yarn for those who want to start the scarf project
  • circular needles with a flexible cord in a corresponding size to your yarn and a few adjacent sizes (metal or plastic needles are strongly recommended)
  • stitch markers
  • Optional materials: scratch paper, highlighter tape, and a digital row counter. Patterns are provided by instructor.

Note: There will be a one-hour break for knitters to go to lunch on their own, off-site
