Starting and concluding right at our shop, this 90-minute guided walking journey will immerse you in the captivating stories woven into the very fabric of our neighborhood, where fibre space calls home.

This tour along the Duke Street corridor in Old Town Alexandria visits sites connected to the early Alexandria slave trade, such the former site of Franklin & Armfield, and the former Bruin Slave Jail site that held the Edmonson sisters as well as sites that connect to early African American’s spirituality such Shiloh Baptist Church and the Alexandria National Cemetery.

About our tour guide:

Manumission Tour Company was founded in the spring of 2016, by John Taylor Chapman, a fourth generation Alexandrian and member of Alexandria City Council. His company curates guided cultural heritage tours designed to highlight Alexandria’s extensive African American History.
