Braids and Steeks! Mini Troi Vest workshop with Aleks Byrd

Knit a cute mini troi vest and learn about this unique Estonian fisherman colorwork sweater from the island of Kihnu! You’ll learn lots of skills in this workshop, from Kihnu its knitted braids to the use of steeks for seamless in-the-round construction. We will even cut 3 mini steeks used for the armholes and neck with the help of crochet reinforcement. This is the perfect workshop if you’ve had the Saar vest or Troi sweater patterns are on your knit list.
Skill level:
intermediate knitter; students should be comfortable to knit and purl in the round, should be comfortable knitting stranded colorwork / fair isle, cast-on, bind -off
Materials:
- US 6 / 4 mm needles for knitting small circumference (Double pointed needles or circular needles for magic loop)
- Tapestry / darning needle
- Scissors
- 3-4 mm crochet hook
- DK yarn (preferably non-superwash -think yarn you would use for colorwork) in 3 contrasting colors in the following approx. amounts:
- MC (main color) 20g
- CC1 (contrast color 1) 20g
- CC2 (contrast color 2 used for steek reinforcement) 5g
