3D Knitwear with Slipped Stitches – a workshop with Olga Buraya-Kefelian

3D knitwear creates intricate designs with simple stitches! In this workshop, Olga will teach you her 3D design philosophy. You will use your existing knitting skills in a new way to create this 3D textured accessory using her special Slip Stitch technique.  After the presentation, put your newly acquired knowledge to use to knit the LOLO cowl, with an opportunity to explore others patterns by Olga that use this method!

Skills needed: 

This is a great class for new knitters! You need only know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.

Skills learned:  

  • Working slip stitch patterns in charts and written instruction 
  • Mirrored increasing 
  • Customize finished accessory to taste 
  • Specifics on benefits and drawbacks of this stitch pattern and the technique   

Sizes:

S-M (M-L) 

Circumference on top 21 (24)”/ 53.5 (61) cm 

Circumference on the bottom 35 (40)” / 89 (101.5) cm 

Materials:

  • approx. 215 (294) yds / 197 (269) m of MC and 202 (239) yds / 185 (219) m of CC in  any worsted weight yarn. This pattern was designed in de rerum natura Gilliatt
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) 16-20” circular OR use size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet hook size G (4 mm) 
  • Stitch marker 
  • Purchase LOLO cowl pattern and bring to class. 
  • Gauge 17.5-18 sts and 28-30 rows=4” in St st worked flat, measured once dry after  washing and blocking.

Homework:  

Cast on for the cowl size of your choice and work 4 rows of the set-up.

This workshop will meet indoors in our second floor event space. Covid 19 vaccine is required and must be provided before attending class. If transmission rates remain low for Alexandria, masks will be optional for this workshop.
