3D Knitwear with Slipped Stitch Technique – a workshop with Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Join local designer and 3D knitwear master Olga Buraya-Kefelian for this amazing three hour workshop. Olga will present her 3D design philosophy, to reveal a slightly different angle of knitwear and putting your existing knitting skills into a novel path – while creating a 3D textured accessory that uses a special Slip Stitch technique. Students will learn not just how to make it, but also how to adapt it, combine and shape it to their liking. During this class students can choose to make the KORO-KORO shawl or EWEYE shawl pattern.

Skills required: knowing how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off

Skills learned:

  • Working incorporated I-cord, I-cord cast on and bind off
  • Working slip stitch patterns in charts and written instruction
  • Mirrored invisible increasing
  • Customize finished accessory to taste
  • Specifics on benefits and drawbacks of this unique stitch pattern and the technique

Materials:

For KORO-KORO shawl:

  • approx. 575 yds/526 m color A and 575 yds/526 m color B in sport or DK weight yarn. We recommend: De Rerum Natura Ulysse, Di Gilpin Lalland, Spincycle Dyed in the Wool (as color B), Kelbourne Woolens Scout, Knerd String DK, WoolDreamers Dehesa de Barrera DK or Hazel Knits Lively DK.
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) 16-20” circular OR use size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet hook size G (4 mm)
  • Small length of smooth waste yarn in similar weight
  • Tapestry needle
  • Purchase KORO-KORO shawl pattern and bring to class.

Gauge: 18-18.5 sts and 28-30 rows=4” / 10cm in St st worked flat, measured once dry after washing and blocking. (This gauge is provided to get the correct yarn weight to create the right fabric for this stitch pattern)

For EWEYE shawl:

  • approx. 480 yds / 438 m color A, 480 yds / 438 m color B and 500 yds / 457 m color C in sport or DK weight yarn.
  • We recommend: De Rerum Natura Ulysse, Di Gilpin Lalland, Spincycle Dyed in the Wool (as color B or C), Kelbourne Woolens Scout, Knerd String DK, WoolDreamers Dehesa de Barrera DK or Hazel Knits Lively DK.
  • US 6 (4mm) circular, 16” / 40 cm and 24” / 61 cm OR use size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet hook size F (3.75 mm)
  • Small length of smooth waste yarn in similar weight
  • Tapestry needle
  • Purchase EWEYE shawl pattern and bring to class

Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows = 4” / 10 cm in St st worked flat, measured once dry after washing and blocking. (This gauge is provided to get the correct yarn weight to create the right fabric for this stitch pattern)
