3D Knitwear with Slip Stitch Technique Workshop (Koko Wrap and Koko Cowl)

Explore 3D design philosophy with local designer Olga Buraya-Kefelian. This workshop is part demonstration with AV and part short lecture on 3D knitwear in hand knitting, all while creating this textured KOKO scarf, wrap or cowl.  Olga will present her 3D design philosophy, to reveal a slightly different angle of knitwear that will put your existing knitting skills into a novel path. You can learn not just how to make this project but also how to adapt it and shape it to your liking.

Skills required: knit, purl, cast on, bind off, pick up stitches

Skills learned:

  • Work turned up hem
  • “Read” your knitting to keep better track of your work
  • Weaving in ends during the process of knitting
  • Working slip stitch patterns in charts and written instruction
  • Customize finished accessory to taste
  • Work I-cord Bind Off
  • Turned up hem/drawstring casing trim

For KOKO scarf/wrap: Scarf (Small Wrap, Large Wrap)

Width approx. 7 ¼ (16 ¾, 19 ¼)”/ 18.5 (42.5, 49) cm
Length approx. 58 (68 ½, 74)” / 147.5 (174, 188) cm

  • 490 (580, 630) yds color A, 450 (540, 580) yds color B and 490 (590, 630) yds color C of any sport weight yarn
  • US 5 (3.75 mm) 24”-32”/60cm-80 cm circular needle and a spare or 1 dpn
  • Crochet Hook D (3.25 mm) or E (3.5 mm)
  • Waste yarn in different color and similar weight to work
  • Tapestry needle

For KOKO cowl: Small (Large)

Circumference approx. 28½ (40½)” / 72 (103) cm
Height approx. 10¼” / 26 cm

  • 200 (260) yds/180 (240) m in color A, 130 (180) yds/120 (160) m in color B, 110 (150) yds/100 (140) m in color C of any other sport weight yarn
  • US 5 (3.75 mm) 24”-32”/60cm-80 cm circular needle,
  • US 4 (3.5 mm) circular, 24”-32”, spare needle and set of dpns
  • Crochet Hook size D, stitch marker, scrap yarn, tapestry needle

Purchase KOKO scarf/wrap or KOKO cowl pattern before arriving to class

Homework:
Cast on for your scarf/wrap or cowl using provisional method using scrap yarn onto your needle.
