Together we will explore two different styles of steek edges\, from the fun of a knotted fringe steek\, great for a shawl\, and the all-around great reinforcement method with crochet. We will finish off with the perfect and super neat steek sandwich band that makes a great finishing touch hiding your steek on a cardigan. \n© Aleks Byrd\nSkill Level\nThis class is for intermediate knitters. Students should be comfortable to knit and purl in the round\, should be comfortable knitting stranded colourwork / Fair Isle\, cast-on\, and bind-off. \nClass Length\n3 hours in person \nMaterials\n\n2 sets of US 8 / 5mm needles for knitting small circumference (DPNs or circular needles for magic loop)\nStitch markers\nSharp scissors\n3-5 mm crochet hook\nWorsted weight yarn (preferably non- superwash —think yarn you would use for colourwork) in 3 contrasting colours in the following approx. amounts:\n\nMC (main colour used in homework swatch) 20g\nCC1 (contrast colour 1 used in homework swatch) 20g\nCC2 (contrast colour 2 used for crochet and steek sandwich band) 10g\n\n\n\nHomework\nStudents will be given instructions to complete a knitted swatch ready to steek. Swatch should take approximately one hour to knit.

This workshop is an introduction to Estonian knitting\, exploring knit fringe\, knit braids\, bobbles\, and roosimine inlay knitting. We will travel across Estonia\, learning these different techniques that are much easier than they look. A great way to get to grips with many of the techniques used in Aleks Byrd’s patterns\, as well as covered in her book\, Traditions Revisited: Modern Estonian Knits. \n© Aleks Byrd\nSkill Level\nThis class is for intermediate knitters. DESCRIPTION:Gain the foundations of the knitting craft and start your first scarf! \nThree 1.5-hour classes \nSkills needed\nAbsolutely none! Our beginner class is ideal for those who are completely new to the craft or who haven’t knitted in many years and need a full refresher. Students must be 16 and older to enroll. \nSkills learned\n\nknit stitch\npurl stitch\ncast on\nbind off\n“tinking” or working back\ncommon knitting terms\nfull fibre education\n\nMaterials (all available at the shop for a 10% discount for your first class)\n\n250-300 yards worsted-weight wool\, wool blend\, or other natural fibre in a light color.
