Greetings from space! Here’s what’s been going on around the shop.
New Arrivals
We’ve received so many great things this week it might be easier to make of list of what isn’t new. We’re restocked on Fiber Story Core DK, Manos Maxima, and buttons!
In addition to these restocks we also received shipments from Miss Babs – Yowza, Yummy 2-ply, and Toes (!), in addition to new colors from Hempathy.
We’ve unboxed a new batch of Freia in Super Bulky, Ombre Fingering (Petites), and Ombre Silk/Alpaca Lace. Make yourself a Big Hat in a night or invest the time in a lace shawl. You have options.
A new base from Periwinkle Sheep landed over the weekend. Watercolors is a 75% merino/25% nylon fingering weight with an excellent squish in addition to the gorgeous hand dyed colorways. Each skein is 460 yards, $25.
Events
Let’s all agree this snowstorm is winter’s last fight. We’re looking ahead to warmer, sunnier days with our Spring Yarn Tasting with the Sugar Shack on Friday, March 6 at 7 pm. ($10)
Our spring charity stitch-a-long continues. Thank you to those who have already contributed! Join us for the Bi-Annual Knit & Crochet Baby (Not Just) Hat Drive to benefit DC-DMV PAIL Net, the area’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network, in collaboration with The Solace Foundation and Stephen’s Heart. There is a basket for donations in the lounge. We are collecting items through April 15. Turn in an item and receive a 10% off coupon. We will be having a stitch-in-space day on March 22. Join us in making these small items for families in need.
Classes
Spring is a time for the new. Let us teach you something new.
Learn the basics of crochet and make a sweet baby blanket or lap afghan! Introduction to Crochet begins on Thursday, March 12 at 7 pm. ($80)
Learn to crochet in the round with our upcoming Crochet Cowl on Saturday, March 22 at noon. ($40)
Learn the fundamentals of knitting with Introduction to Knitting. Seats are available in our April sessions, with classes beginning on Wednesday, April 1; Tuesday, April 7; Saturday, April 10; and Sunday, April 11. ($75)
Learn to make a hat in one sitting, seriously. Our next Beanie Hat class meets on Wednesday, March 18 at 6 pm. ($50).
Keep your hands warm through any spring cold snaps with our Introduction to Mittens class, beginning on Saturday, March 7 at 2 pm ($80). Or, learn how to make the more advanced Connectivity Gloves on Saturday, March 14 at noon ($80).
Spring is a great time to learn to make sweaters, and children’s sweaters make very attainable projects (they’re so little!) Our next Introduction to Sweaters begins on Saturday, March 7 at 10 am ($80).
Maybe you want to add colorwork to your sweater knitting skills, try our Stranded Colorwork Baby Sweater beginning on Monday, March 9 at 7 pm ($80).
If you’re looking for a good first shawl knit out of a single colorway, try the Introduction to Lace Shawls – Ashton on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 pm. ($80)
If you’ve tackled your first few shawls and want a new challenge, try your hand with the DK-weight Intermediate Lace Shawl – Lilyanna beginning on Saturday, March 7 at 10 am ($80). If you prefer fingering-weight shawls, check out Intermediate Lace Shawl – Catoctin starting on Monday, March 16 at 7 pm ($80).
