Materials
- US 8 (24inch) circular needles
- 1 stitch marker
- 2 skeins of Manos Maxima = 1 skein main color (MC) and 1 skein contrast color (CC) (this is sufficient to
- knit two cowls switching MC and CC or a larger cowl with CO of additional stitches).
Gauge:
21 sts = 4″ in pattern
Abbreviation(s):
wyib: while slipping the stitches, keep the yarn to the back of the work.
Note: make sure to keep the floats snug behind the slipped stitches-makes for nice round ‘bubbles’.
Pattern:
Using MC, CO 112 stitches.
Join for knitting in the round, being careful not to twist, and place the stitch marker to indicate beginning of round.
Knit 6 rows of 4×4 ribbing as follows: *k4, p4* repeat to the end of round.
**Section A –change to CC:
Row 1: knit all stitches.
Rows 2 and 3: *slip 4 stitches wyib, knit 4* repeat to end of row.
Row 4: knit all stitches.
Rows 5 and 6: repeat rows 2 and 3.
Section B-change to MC:
Row 1: knit all stitches.
Rows 2 and 3: *knit 4, slip 4 stitches wyib* repeat to end of row.
Row 4: knit all stitches.
Rows 5 and 6: repeat rows 2 and 3.**
Repeat from ** to ** above (i.e. alternating section A and section B) four more times, then knit section A once more (= 11 stripes).
Next: change to MC and knit 1 row.
Knit 6 rows of 4×4 ribbing as follows: *k4, p4* to end of row.
BO all stitches in ribbing pattern.
Weave in ends and block to measurements: approximately 11 inches wide by 9 inches high.
