If you didn’t see this in the Washington City Paper, you should read it. Besides being hilarious, it is a great review of our local Alexandria yarn shop:
Best Place to Hide From a Male Stalker
Knit Happens
For any self-respecting man, a trip to the yarn store is about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit, which is why Old Town’s Knit Happens is just about the best place for a gal to spend some alone time. There are pattern and learn-to books, kits for hip projects like knitting kids’ moon boots, and more needles than your living-room floor after Christmas. But it’s the yarn women—and OK, possibly a few men—flock here for. Knit Happens has an outstanding collection of yarns by top-notch British fiber designers like Debbie Bliss and Rowan (including the latter’s new line of organic, naturally dyed cottons!), plus exotics like ultra-rich cashmere and bamboo. You’ll find yourself wondering which balls to fondle first! The friendly sales staff, unlike insufferable record store clerks, never make you feel out of your depth and are only too willing to offer help and advice to drop-ins. Don’t know your cable needle from your circulars? Always hankered to make a pair of socks? Knit Happens also offers classes for the uninitiated.
