Thank you to all those who made it out to Buzz Bakery. I was there early and had a pom martini before anyone else showed up 🙂 In the end, we had a great sized crowd, filling up the middle table.
Kate brought her version of the baby beanie hat pattern to show me. I love the cream brim! It reminded me that I haven’t written up the new pattern yet and the matching mini mitts. I will get on it! Too many things going on these days…poor Amanda started knitting my top down sweater pattern from random scraps of notes, with the promise that I would write the pattern and I haven’t done that either. I am officially a slacker. Blame the wedding.
In wedding news, I have found a DJ for only $400. I should say that while I don’t tend to trust vendors who charge a third of what they should for services, this person is a friend of a childhood friend and also is a part of the vintage scooter scene in Pittsburgh, so we have many mutual friends here in DC who will also be at the wedding. He has agreed to leave his lights and things at home and be as low energy as he can, although he admitted that he probably should not attempt to power his equipment with bicycle power. I am ignoring that he may have been making fun of me…
In an effort to keep down flower costs and be eco friendly, I have this insane plan. It goes as follows…
In my former event planning days, I often used Melwood Garden Center for live plant centerpieces. Melwood employs developmentaly challenged folks to work in their garden center and their other facilities. I called my contact there today to ask about locally grown cut flowers or for ideas on how to find these types of vendors in the Pittsburgh area. She sent me to Talmar. Talmar is similar to Melwood but has an entire portion of their property dedicated to selling cut flowers – that you go out and cut yourself. I haven’t reached anyone there yet, but my hope is to head up there on our way to Pittsburgh for the reception and to cut a couple of buckets full of fresh and in season flowers. The vases…now those I need help with. The local Whole Foods in Alexandria is now selling milk in glass bottles from a local dairy farmer. (you know where I am going with this, I am sure) The milk is amazing, by the way. I had no idea how much the packaging of our milk affects the taste! Well anyway, it comes in glass bottles that can be returned for a partial refund on the original cost. I am going to collect the smaller bottles over the next few weeks and use them for the centerpieces! Will probably tie a nice sized ribbon around it and fill it with a bundle of gerbers or other in season flower. I think if I put one per table, I will need about 12 at most. I can probably get that quantity before the end of May but it makes me a bit nervous. If I put three per table, I need 36! So..if you happen to want to try out some seriously good milk, please keep your bottle and send it my way at your next class or whatever. I will return it to you after the reception so that you can get your deposit back or will donate the deposit money to my favorite environmental group.
